INVICTA 'LOOSE' | TRACK REVIEW

Invicta have built their reputation fast and loud. Formed in 2022 and already a rising force within the UK heavy metal scene, nothing is holding them back. Fuelled by raw power that has quickly become their signature sound. With guitarists Nadim Hassan and Dylan Gilbert weaving together blistering twin-guitar assaults, bassist Oliver Szomi drives the low end with thunderous intent, vocalist Liam Jarvis shifts effortlessly between growls and soaring highs, Invicta have crafted a sound that blends the timeless grit of classic metal with the modern edge of metal-core.

Their new single, "LOOSE" captures everything that makes Invicta a band worth paying attention to. Accompanied by artwork featuring a coiled snake, a visual metaphor for tension, entrapment, and the need to break free - the track digs into themes of constraint. Whether those constraints come from a toxic relationship, mental-health battles, or any personal struggle, "LOOSE" leaves room for listeners to carve out their own meaning. It's catharsis built for whoever needs it. Musically, the track wastes no time sinking its teeth in. "LOOSE" lunges forward with an immediacy that recalls the punchy minimalism of Royal Blood and the quick pace of SOFT PLAY (formerly SLAVES) all whilst showcasing vocal moments that nod boldly towards Metallica's heavier prime. Jarvis' voice is a highlight throughout, not just screaming for the sake of aggression, but delivering range, control and character.

Across the track, he tears through three distinct vocal styles: sharp, urgent screams; clean melodic notes; and fast-paced vocal runs that match the intensity of the band's instrumentation. The drumming is another standout feature, especially in the way it interacts with the dramatic pauses threaded throughout the track. These breaks create tension reminiscent of Metallica's classic structures, but Invicta push the heaviness further, using silence as a weapon rather than a breather. The guitars snarl, the bass snarls deeper, and together the band delivers a sound that feels both tightly composed and feral at the same time. There's even a subtle nu-metal edge tucked into the rhythm and vocal dynamics, a small flare that broadens the track's sonic identity without ever diluting its heaviness. "LOOSE" is ultimately a showcase of the band's technical and emotional range. For such a young group, the maturity in their songwriting is impressive. The track highlights each member's skills without turning into a show-off piece; instead, everything locks into place with purpose and intent.

Invicta are clearly on a steep upward trajectory, and if "LOOSE" is any indication of what they're capable of, 2026 is set to be a defining year for them. The talent is already there - sharpened, confident, and ready to break free.
