HORIZON - "TOO FAR GONE" - TRACK REVIEW

Does anyone else love a song that gets you excited for your day AND sounds like it could be an opening track to a Shonen anime? Then I think we have something you may like! Hailing from Southampton, ambitious, industry skilled musicians HORIZON released a gripping stand alone track as an enticing starter to their 2025 EP. Bringing to the scene a wealth of experience from former bands such as Our Hollow, Our Home and Here Lies Titania.

Straight away we are immersed in the first verse, getting us pumped with shredded guitar riffs and killer rhythm before slamming us into the vocals. Without hesitation we are thrown into the mind of our figurative antagonist, telling us their story of their ‘every hollow victory’ Why do I feel like I’m about to get up after a boss fight and make a speech about never giving up? Our hero is trying to reason with them, ‘[we] will never know, the darkest places’ they have been and what they have to show for it. Then we get the villain growling back at us, trying to keep our metaphoric hero down, feeling as if ‘every victory is hollow’ they’re ‘broken [and] sinking within’ The vocals are at odds with each other, yet perfectly balanced.

Feeling very reminiscent of Don’t Look Away by The Plot in You. All the while we’re keeping up with this story, the drums are doing a spectacular job at getting

my heart racing, building excitement with every beat. Honestly? It sounds like Poppy and Architects if they were to have a happy go lucky yet rebellious child. That emotional belting of the lyrics entwined with thick vocal fry's. As we return to the second chorus of the song, I’m starting to believe in positive change. There is a less foreboding vibe to the song, as the guitar has been pitched up an octave. I wish I could describe the euphoric tingle feeling in my chest as the vocalist belts out that final word of the chorus, ‘Grave’ My god please don’t give up!

Moving into the ending, a soft piano melody creates a false sense of security. We can feel our villain ‘sinking deeper into madness’ One final act of fear, ‘running away’ from themselves. Before resigning themselves to the crestfallen atmosphere, and accepting this is their fate. Perpetually, a reality of their own making.

If the above hasn’t convinced you to check these guys out, then I’ve done a terrible job at

describing them. Not only do they have a killer sound, their poetic vocals really create a

passionate atmosphere. Can’t wait to see more to come!
